RUKIGA -Micheal Kwarikunda Mbareeba, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Chairperson for Rukiga District, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Rukiga District LCV Chairperson seat as an Independent candidate.
Kwarikunda made the announcement today during a press conference held at Tuuza Residence Lounge in Makanga Hill In Central Division of Kabale Municipality, citing internal wrangles within the FDC as the primary reason for his decision to run independently.
“The ongoing misunderstandings and conflicts within the FDC party have made it increasingly difficult for me to operate under the party banner,” Kwarikunda stated.
“While I remain loyal to the principles that brought me to FDC, I cannot in good conscience continue on the party ticket under the current circumstances.”
Despite stepping away from the FDC platform, Kwarikunda was clear that he would not be aligning himself with any other political party, reaffirming his commitment to run as an Independent in the upcoming general elections.
Outlining his agenda, Kwarikunda pledged to prioritize job creation, entrepreneurship support, and the promotion of local business growth if elected as the next Rukiga District LCV Chairperson.
He also emphasized plans to improve essential public services, including the rehabilitation of road networks, upgrading of healthcare facilities, betterment of schools, and expansion of clean water access.“Our people deserve development that speaks to their daily needs,” he said.
“I will ensure that our roads are passable, our schools are conducive for learning, and our hospitals are adequately equipped to serve.”
Kwarikunda also promised to champion transparency, accountability, and increased citizen participation in governance, aiming to build a more inclusive and responsive local government.
His declaration marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Rukiga, as he becomes one of the first high-profile figures from the FDC in the district to break ranks with the party amid growing tensions.
The Rukiga LCV race is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in the region as more candidates are anticipated to enter the race in the coming weeks.
