KABALE -A 15-year-old Senior Two student from Hornby Girls School in Kabale has been reported missing, sparking concern among family, school authorities, and the wider community.
The student, identified as Blessing Ayebazibwe, was last seen on the school premises after supper on Monday evening.
Her disappearance was confirmed by the school’s headteacher, George Aturebire, who said that the school immediately launched a search after realizing she was missing.
Blessing’s father, Grant Ayebazibwe, a resident of Kashasha Town Council in Bufundi Sub County, Rubanda District, said he was notified by the headteacher about his daughter’s disappearance.
He expressed deep concern over the school’s security protocols, questioning how a student could go missing from a secure boarding environment without immediate detection.“As a parent, I am devastated and demanding answers. How does a child disappear in a school with supervision and security?” Ayebazibwe told reporters.
Headteacher Aturebire described the incident as unfortunate and said he had reported the matter to Kabale Police.
He assured the family and the public that the school was treating the situation with urgency.“We have launched a full-scale search within and outside the school. So far, no trace of Blessing has been found. We urge the family and the public to remain calm and patient as efforts to locate her continue,” Aturebire said.
The school has since heightened its internal security measures as police investigations get underway. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating the missing student.
The incident has raised broader questions about student safety in boarding schools, with some parents calling for tighter security protocols and better monitoring systems.
