Rubanda Woman MP Aspirant Jacqueline Katabazi Condemns Voter Bribery, Pledges Healthcare Reforms

Rubanda, Uganda-Jacqueline Katabazi, aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Rubanda District, has taken a bold stand against voter bribery, calling it a major obstacle to the region’s development.

Speaking during campaign rallies on June 23rd in Kagunga and Kishanje Parishes, Bufundi Sub-county, Katabazi described politicians who engage in the practice as “enemies of progress.”“Bribing voters undermines democracy and robs our communities of effective leadership,” she said. “We must reject such leaders with our votes.”

Katabazi blamed the area’s underdevelopment on a history of vote buying, which she argues has led to the election of leaders who fail to advocate for constituents in Parliament. She urged residents to demand accountability and integrity from those seeking public office.

If elected, Katabazi promised to make healthcare a top priority. She pledged to reallocate funds typically used for Members of Parliament’s luxury vehicles to purchase ambulances for Rubanda West and East, distribute maternity kits, and stock health centers with essential medical supplies.

“Our mothers should not risk their lives due to lack of transport or basic medical care,” she said. “We must put people before personal comfort.”

Katabazi also committed to lobbying for government programs aimed at uplifting local farmers and households.

These include support in grain production and other agricultural initiatives meant to boost food security and income.

Her campaign has garnered attention for its grassroots appeal and focus on practical solutions to longstanding community challenges.

As the 2026 general elections draw closer, Katabazi’s message appears to be resonating with voters frustrated by unmet promises and poor service delivery.
