NRM to Submit Presidential Nomination Signatures to EC

NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is preparing to hand over its collected signatures to the Electoral Commission (EC) as part of the requirements for nominating its presidential flag bearer in the 2026 elections.

Presidential nominations are slated for September 23 and 24, with each candidate expected to present at least 100 signatures from a minimum of two-thirds of Uganda’s 146 districts—equivalent to 98 districts.

So far, the EC confirms that 12 aspirants have already submitted their signatures for scrutiny, while a total of 207 individuals picked nomination forms to join the race.

An insider from the NRM revealed that the signatures in support of the party’s candidate have already been screened and verified internally.

President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, is set to seek another term in office, marking what would be his seventh bid for the presidency.

The ruling party views the submission of signatures as a significant milestone in affirming its nationwide backing ahead of the official nomination exercise.
