NRM Mobilisers Tasked to ‘Paint the City Yellow’ for 2026 Campaigns

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat has rallied leaders of various mobilisation pressure groups to step up preparations for President Museveni’s 2026 re-election bid.

The call was made at the NRM Secretariat headquarters in Kampala, during a strategy meeting chaired by the party’s National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa.

Nekesa told the groups that the gathering was aimed at harmonising efforts ahead of the presidential campaigns, which officially kick off in October.

“We invited you here to discuss how we can cooperate to forge a joint campaign task force team that will traverse the country seeking support for President Museveni,” she said.

She further urged mobilisers to spread the message of economic empowerment while galvanising support for the party, noting that NRM’s grassroots strength lies in collective action.

Nekesa also tasked the groups to ensure a strong turnout at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on September 23, when Museveni is expected to be officially nominated by the Independent Electoral Commission.

“I want us to mobilize Ugandans who will fill Kololo grounds to full capacity after the nomination of our great icon,” she added, calling on party members to “paint the city yellow” as a show of unity and dominance.

The meeting comes as the NRM intensifies preparations to defend its nearly four-decade hold on power, with Museveni widely expected to be the party’s flagbearer for the 2026 elections.
