UEDCL announces planned power shutdown in Kampala

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has announced a planned power shutdown that will affect several parts of Kampala tomorrow citing essential maintenance works at the Kampala North Substation.

In a statement, UEDCL said that electricity will be switched off on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM to allow its technical team to conduct critical maintenance operations.

“This shutdown is to allow our technical team to safely carry out critical maintenance works at the Substation,” said Stephen Ilungole, the acting Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL.

The affected areas include Nakulabye, Makerere, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kasubi, Kawaala, Mutesa I Road, Mengo SSS, Bukesa, Kavule, Sentema Road, Bwaise, Kazo, Nabweru, Kawempe, Mulago, Katanga, Wandegeya, Lumumba Avenue, Nakasero Road, Buganda Road, Kira Road corridor, Uganda Museum, Kitante, Fairway Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, Kamwokya, Kololo Hospital, Kisementi, Bukoto, Gayaza Road, Bahai Temple, and surrounding neighborhoods.

UEDCL has advised all consumers in the listed areas to switch off electrical appliances during the maintenance period to avoid damage once power is restored.

The distribution company has apologized for the disruption urging customers to switch off their electrical machines until power is safely restored.

“Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted. All affected customers are advised to switch off their electrical appliances until we safely restore power supply.”
