Rukiga-Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Hon. Rolland Ndyomugyenyi Bish, has reassured residents of Karorwa Parish in Bukinda Subcounty that the long-awaited electricity extension project to their area is set to begin soon, following the completion of all required technical assessments.

Hon. Ndyomugyenyi delivered the message on Monday while canvassing for votes in Nyakasiru and Karorwa parishes as he intensifies his campaign ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He explained that the electricity rollout, being implemented in partnership with the government and TIMA, had initially faced delays due to the transition of responsibilities from the former Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

However, he confirmed that the project is now on track.

According to the legislator, both the survey and feasibility studies for the electricity extension have been successfully completed, and all necessary documentation has been finalized. He emphasized that actual implementation works are expected to commence soon.

In addition to grid electricity, Hon. Ndyomugyenyi noted that a solar power component has been integrated into the energy program to ensure that households not directly connected to the main grid also benefit.

He revealed that a pilot project conducted in Nyakasiru and Ibugwe parishes confirmed the durability and effectiveness of the solar systems.

He said the government has introduced an affordable solar loan scheme designed to help low-income households access reliable lighting without financial strain.

Addressing water challenges in the area, the MP stated that efforts to secure a sustainable water source for Karorwa had been hindered by the terrain and the inability to identify a viable supply point. Despite this, he assured residents that alternative solutions are being explored.

He said authorities will adopt a rainwater harvesting strategy as an interim measure, stressing that the collected water will be properly treated to make it safe for household use.
