The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) in partnership with Nile Breweries Uganda Limited, through its flagship beer brand Nile Special have officially launched the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership, setting the stage for an exciting rugby season that kicks off on Saturday 7th February 2026 for both the men’s and women’s teams which will run for 5 months.

The launch event introduced this season’s focus on celebrating fans as the “16th Man,” under the theme “Greatness at Play,” encouraging supporters across the country to step forward and Be the 16th Man.

As organisers of Uganda’s premier rugby competitions, Uganda Rugby Union continues to steer the growth and professionalisation of the sport, while Nile Special, reinforces its long-standing commitment to elevating the game and energising its passionate fan base.

This season’s platform recognises that rugby greatness is not forged by players alone, but powered by the supporters whose energy, chants, and loyalty influence every moment of the game. The 16th Man symbolises the fan as the extra force that fuels performance on the pitch.

Nile Special will continue to elevate the sport while evolving the fan experience through a digital-led campaign designed to amplify supporter voices throughout the season. Match days will see fans celebrated and rewarded as “Unmatched Fans,” with on-ground moments, digital engagement, and interactive experiences that place supporters at the centre of the Premiership narrative.

“Rugby greatness does not live on the pitch alone, it lives in the stands, in the chants, the belief, and the passion of the fans. This season, we are celebrating the supporter as the 16th Man, the extra force that lifts teams, shifts momentum, and turns matches into unforgettable moments. Greatness at Play is about recognising that every cheer, every drumbeat, and every raised gold contributes to the spirit of Ugandan rugby,” said Wangechi Gitahi, Head of Marketing Nile Breweries.

The Uganda Rugby Premiership remains the pinnacle of domestic rugby competition, showcasing top-tier talent across both the men’s and women’s leagues while nurturing the sport’s continued growth and national pride. Nile Special’s longstanding partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union continues to strengthen the rugby ecosystem from elite competition to fan culture and community engagement.

The 2026 season promises fierce rivalries, emerging stars, and electric match-day atmospheres, with Nile Special reinforcing its role as the brand that stands with fans, players, and the broader rugby family.
