Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have gained momentum following the arrival of a delegation from the Confederation of African Football for a two-day planning workshop.
According to Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, the workshop marks a key milestone in formally kick-starting the country’s readiness for the continental tournament.
He noted that the engagement is aimed at strengthening coordination among the PAMOJA host nations Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania—and aligning priorities for the next phase of preparations.
Mugimba clarified that the ongoing sessions are part of a collaborative planning process and not an official CAF inspection visit, emphasizing that CAF remains committed to supporting the three host countries in delivering a successful tournament.
Key areas under discussion include security, infrastructure development, financing, procurement, media, and commercial operations.
He also advised accommodation facility owners to work closely with the Uganda Tourism Board for authorization, noting that the Local Organising Committee does not accredit or designate tourist facilities.
With the tournament drawing closer, Mugimba urged investors and property owners to position themselves early to benefit from opportunities in the hospitality sector.
He further revealed that government has already released significant funding for the development of training facilities, signaling strong commitment to infrastructure readiness ahead of the tournament.
Stakeholders have been encouraged to prepare in advance and take advantage of the wide range of business opportunities expected to arise across multiple sectors as Uganda gears up to co-host AFCON 2027.
