Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) has rewarded 16 agents and 10 units for their performance in customer retention, investment mobilisation and financial literacy during the first half of 2026.
The agents were recognised at the OMIG Agents Incentive Awards held at Hotel Africana, following their achievements between January and June.
Edmund Tumwesiga emerged as the leading performer in customer retention, having retained Shs12.36 billion in customer investments. Daniel Gatsinzi followed with Shs8.5 billion, earning recognition as second runner-up. Both were rewarded with overseas trips.
The awards highlighted the role of agents in attracting new investors, maintaining customer relationships and encouraging clients to remain committed to their financial goals.
Speaking during the presentation of the company’s business performance for the first two quarters of 2026, Daniel Opiyo, OMIG’s Head of Marketing and Business Development, outlined the firm’s position in Uganda’s expanding unit trust market.
OMIG’s assets under management reached Shs4.14 trillion by the end of June 2026, accounting for 58.5% of the industry market share, according to the business update.
The company’s assets grew by Shs306.1 billion between March and June, representing an increase of about 8%.
Across the industry, total unit trust assets under management rose from Shs6.26 trillion in March to Shs7.08 trillion in June, reflecting continued growth in the market.
Against this background, OMIG said its agents remain central to helping customers understand investment products, build confidence and maintain their investments over time.
Zac Kisesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group, said agents play a critical role in connecting the company with its customers and building relationships based on trust.
“Our agents contribute directly to the growth of our business by bringing in new clients and helping existing customers stay engaged with their investments. That contribution is built on trust. Every clear explanation, every question answered and every follow-up helps strengthen a customer’s confidence in us. These awards recognise the agents whose dedication continues to earn that trust and support our growth,” Kisesi said.
Certificates were presented in four categories: Agents with the Most Clients per Month; Top 10 Units in Net Client Cash Flow (NCCF); Best Agents in Monthly NCCF; and Best Agents in Overall NCCF for the January-to-June period.
Opiyo said the recognition reflects the consistent work required to guide customers beyond their initial decision to invest.
He noted that agents help prospective investors understand their financial needs, assess available options and make informed decisions, while continued engagement helps customers stay on track with their investment plans.
“For many people, the decision to start investing begins with a conversation with an agent. Our responsibility is to make that conversation useful: understand what the customer wants to achieve, explain the options clearly and help them make an informed choice. Financial literacy is part of that everyday work, and following up after a customer joins is just as important as bringing them on board,” Opiyo said.
The business update also highlighted OMIG’s continued emphasis on customer retention and regular training for agents in investment products and service skills.
The training is intended to improve agents’ ability to explain investment options, strengthen customers’ understanding of financial products and maintain relationships throughout the investment journey.
Through the awards and agent development initiatives, OMIG reiterated the importance of customer trust, financial education and consistent engagement in sustaining its business growth and supporting the development of Uganda’s unit trust market.
