Rukungiri-Boda boda riders in Rukungiri District have been called upon to prioritize their children’s education and adopt better financial planning strategies to secure a brighter future for their families.
This appeal was made on Thursday by Sezi Turinawe, the political assistant to the Minister of Security and MP for Rujumbura Constituency, Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.
Turinawe was speaking during the official launch of the Nyabikuuku Boda Boda Stage SACCO at Nyabikuuku Trading Centre, Nyabikuuku Cell, Rushasha Parish in Nyakajeme Subcounty.
Addressing riders and community members, Turinawe emphasized the importance of responsible parenting and urged boda boda riders to view their children as the future leaders of the country.
“Parents must ensure their children stay in school. Education is a key investment in securing a better future not just for the children, but for the entire community,” Turinawe said.
Following the SACCO’s launch, a fundraising event was held to boost its financial base.
Turinawe encouraged riders to diversify their sources of income beyond boda boda operations in order to increase earnings and reduce over-reliance on a single trade.
“By planning wisely and managing finances well, riders can better support their families and ensure their children get a quality education,” she added.
In a show of support, Minister Jim Muhwezi contributed UGX 500,000 towards the SACCO.
Julius Kakuru, the chairperson of Nyabikuuku Boda Boda Stage SACCO, revealed that the initiative began in 2018 with support from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who donated motorcycles to kick-start the group.
Kakuru noted that the SACCO’s main goal is to provide loan support to its members, helping them access the financial resources needed to improve their livelihoods and expand their businesses.

“The SACCO currently holds UGX 30 million in assets, and this fundraising aims to increase our capacity to serve more members,” Kakuru said.
During the fundraising drive, an additional UGX 3,000,000 was collected to strengthen the SACCO’s financial base.
