KABALE -Excitement and jubilation filled Kabale District on Wednesday as Hon. Bridget Asiinga Tumwesigye, the Woman Councilor for Kyanamira Sub-county, officially assumed office as the new National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Chairperson.
The handover ceremony, presided over by the NRM District Administrative Secretary, Amos Rwansheija, took place at the party offices along the Kabale–Kisoro Road.
During the event, Rwansheija formally handed over the office keys and the official party stamp to Hon. Asiinga, symbolizing the beginning of her new leadership journey.
Hon. Asiinga, who also serves as the Secretary for Finance and Works in the Kabale District Local Government, has been the NRM Vice Chairperson for several years.
Her elevation to the top party position comes at a crucial time, as the district leadership seeks to rebuild unity and trust following internal divisions that emerged after the recent party primaries. The split within the district NRM structures stemmed from the loss of the Ndorwa West Constituency NRM flag by Hon. David Bahati to Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera during the party primaries.
Bahati currently the State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, and the MP for Ndorwa West later opted to run as an independent candidate, citing irregularities in the electoral process.
Upon assuming her new role, Hon. Asiinga pledged to focus on reconciliation and teamwork among party members. She emphasized her determination to restore harmony within the NRM ranks, strengthen grassroots mobilization, and promote inclusive leadership. She believes that through unity and cooperation, the party can regain full stability and continue advancing its development agenda in Kabale.
Hon. Asiinga has built a strong reputation as a development-oriented leader. During her tenure as Secretary for Finance and Works, she spearheaded major initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure across the district. These include road rehabilitation projects, the expansion of rural access roads, and advocacy for increased funding to support community development programs.
She has also played a key role in empowering women and youth through skills development and entrepreneurship support. Her leadership style is characterized by transparency, commitment, and results-oriented service qualities that have earned her admiration from both party members and the public. Many residents describe her as a practical leader who prioritizes action over politics, and whose efforts have directly improved livelihoods across Kabale. The change in district leadership follows a period of tension within the NRM, caused by members running as independents after losing party primaries. Senior party officials have repeatedly warned that such tendencies weaken party cohesion and create opportunities for opposition growth.
With the official handover of office, Hon. Asiinga is now fully in charge of the Kabale District NRM leadership. She has pledged to guide the party toward unity, rebuild confidence among supporters, and ensure that the NRM remains strong and well-organized ahead of future elections.
Her appointment has been widely welcomed by local leaders and party members, who view her as a symbol of renewed hope and stability for the ruling party in Kabale District.
