From Setbacks to Success: Mulungi Allen’s Six-Year Journey in Travel Business Heads to a Red-Carpet Milestone

What began as an accidental encounter in Kampala’s Ambassador House has grown into a six-year career worth celebrating. Tours and travel entrepreneur Mulungi Allen Nagawa is set to mark her business anniversary on October 31 with a red-carpet event at Hotel Africana.

The 30-year-old founder of Mulungi Allen The Mighty Tours and Travel describes her rise in the industry as proof that persistence pays off. “I wasn’t after money; I was after an opportunity to determine my future,” she recalls.

Mulungi’s path has been anything but straightforward. Born in Nsambya, Lukuli, to a Reverend father and a hardworking mother, she grew up in a crowded two-room home. Schooling was difficult, and early ventures in sales and fruit trading failed. A law degree attempt also collapsed.

Her turning point came in 2017, when she walked into a building seeking NGO work and instead stumbled upon a tours company. She joined with no prior knowledge of the industry but quickly established herself as a top marketer.

In 2019, she registered her own firm. Early international trips failed, but local tours kept her afloat. The COVID-19 pandemic brought her toughest test yet, with the loss of her father and a near-collapse of her business. She rebounded, organizing successful Dubai trips and a multi-country European tour in 2023.

Today, her company manages travel for clients including Mirembe Beddings and Nsambya Furniture. Beyond business, she is a church minister and youth mentor. “I was born without a sense of smell,” she says, “but I can smell my destiny.”

Spotlight on the Anniversary

The build-up to Mulungi’s six-year celebration is already generating buzz within the travel sector. Organizers say the October 31 gala will feature live performances, client testimonials, and a special tribute to her late father, who inspired much of her faith and resilience.

The event is expected to draw leading tourism players, loyal clients, and young entrepreneurs who see Mulungi’s story as proof that Uganda’s travel industry can be built on determination as much as expertise.
