Kabale-The Headteacher of Kigezi High School, Mr. Akampurira Abraham, has called on the local community to actively support the implementation of the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), emphasizing the need for practical learning and community involvement.
In an interview with the TheFoxGuard.Com, in the school school premises at Rugarama hill in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality,Mr. Akampurira highlighted the importance of community participation in facilitating hands-on learning experiences, such as school visits to demonstration gardens for agriculture and geography tours within the local area.
He noted that such activities are essential for learners to acquire real-world skills and knowledge as envisioned in the CBC.

“This curriculum is community-based, and we cannot succeed without the support of parents and local leaders,” he said. “We want learners to go out into the community, interact with the environment, and apply what they learn in class.”
Mr. Akampurira also urged the government to address the challenges related to teacher training and deployment. He expressed concern over the limited preparedness of some teachers to deliver the new curriculum effectively.
“We are facing a bit of a challenge from teachers who are not yet fully familiar with the CBC. The government should prioritize training and support for these educators so that they can teach competently,” he added.

The Competency-Based Curriculum, introduced by the Ministry of Education and Sports, focuses on equipping learners with practical skills and competencies to prepare them for the demands of the 21st century. However, its successful rollout depends significantly on support from both the education sector and the wider community.
