Kwesiga Milton Declares Independent Candidacy for Ndorwa East, Cites Electoral Bribery in NRM Primaries

KABALE -Renowned farmer and environmentalist Kwesiga Milton has officially declared his intention to run as an independent candidate for the Ndorwa East County parliamentary seat in the forthcoming general elections.

While addressing the media at his home in Muyebe Buhara Sub-County Of Kabale District,Kwesiga expressed deep disappointment over what he described as widespread corruption among NRM flag bearer hopefuls.

His decision comes amid growing concerns over voter bribery within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries, scheduled for July 16 this year.

He alleged that his rivals in the ruling party have already begun distributing cash, ranging between UGX 10,000 and UGX 30,000, in exchange for signatures needed for nomination.

“These kinds of leaders, once elected, will not serve the interests of the people. Their primary goal is to recover what they spent during campaigns, not to lead,” Kwesiga warned.

He further noted that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has consistently spoken out against electoral malpractice, including voter bribery.

Kwesiga said his decision to opt out of the party primaries aligns with the President’s call for integrity and fairness in elections.

Calling for electoral wisdom among the voters of Ndorwa East, Kwesiga urged residents to reject money-driven politics and instead vote for leaders based on merit, vision, and track record.

“Electing leaders because they gave you money will only result in disappointment. When such individuals go to Parliament, they won’t represent your interests—they will chase personal gain,” he said.

Kwesiga, who is known for his grassroots work in sustainable farming and environmental conservation, reminded voters of the urgent need to address environmental challenges affecting the region.

He emphasized that a focus on ecological restoration could significantly improve local livelihoods and incomes.“Ndorwa East needs a leader who understands the land, the people, and the environment,” he concluded.

Kwesiga’s announcement sets the stage for what promises to be a heated electoral contest in Ndorwa East County, as more candidates prepare to enter the race ahead of the nomination deadline.
