The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has urged the people of Ntungamo District to take advantage of the growing government development interventions to create wealth at individual and household levels for meaningful socioeconomic transformation.
Speaking to thousands of supporters at the NRM Presidential Campaign Rally held at Kyamate Primary School Playgrounds in Ntungamo District, Gen. Museveni emphasized that government programs are already in place, but citizens must actively use them to uplift themselves.
“We have brought development to Ntungamo—roads, electricity, schools, hospitals, and water. But development alone does not make you wealthy,” Museveni said.
“Wealth creation is your responsibility. Use the capital from government programs wisely and transform your households.”
He highlighted several key socioeconomic empowerment initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women Empowerment Fund, describing them as strategic tools designed to provide capital for income-generating projects.
Gen. Museveni urged residents to clearly differentiate between government-led development and individual wealth creation.
“Government works on development—roads, electricity, hospitals, and security. You must work on wealth creation. The two are different, and both are necessary,” he noted.
NRM’s Major Achievements Presented
During the rally, the NRM Presidential Candidate outlined the party’s major achievements in Ntungamo District, citing improvements in education, health, water supply, electricity distribution, job creation, and peace as evidence of the NRM’s capability to lead the country forward.
“Ntungamo has benefited immensely—whether in peace, new schools, expanded health services, water projects, electricity, and job opportunities. These are not mere promises; they are achievements you can see,” he said.
Museveni also warned PDM committees in Ntungamo against imposing collateral requirements on beneficiaries, calling the practice illegal.
“I have received reports that some PDM committees are demanding collateral. That must stop immediately. PDM is designed to help the poor, not to burden them,” he warned.
First Lady Calls for Massive Mobilization
The Ntungamo District NRM Chairperson and First Lady, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, rallied party supporters to mobilize peers, family members, and entire households to turn up on voting day.
“Everyone must come out and vote. Do not leave this responsibility to others. Protect the NRM victory by turning up in big numbers,” she said.
Maama Janet highlighted the significant development strides Ntungamo District has made under the NRM government, including population growth from 380,000 to 553,000 people, improved infrastructure, and expanded service delivery.
She pointed to the 39 billion shillings disbursed through the Parish Development Model to 38,693 beneficiaries, the 3.8 billion shillings under Emyooga, and additional support from youth and women empowerment programs.
“The growth of Ntungamo District—its roads, schools, health centers, water systems, and electricity coverage—speaks for itself. NRM has transformed this district,” she said.
Maama Janet also noted that Ntungamo now boasts over 700 kilometres of tarmacked roads, expanded electricity access, and several water distribution projects.
Gen. Museveni concluded by appealing to Ntungamo residents to support his re-election bid to sustain the progress achieved and expand wealth creation initiatives across the district.
