By Enock Ndyamuhakyi

Rukungiri, Uganda Police in Rukungiri District are on the hunt for a 30-year-old woman, only identified as Constance, who is accused of murdering an 81-year-old woman under her care on Sunday morning.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the deceased has been identified as Kashillingi Kedress alias Muserebende, a peasant and resident of Nyakabare cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri District.

The incident occurred on May 11, 2025, at around 7:15 AM.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Constance, had only been employed as a housemaid by the deceased on May 2, 2025, after being found loitering in Kebisoni in search of a job.

At the time of the incident, Kedress was living with her granddaughter, Natukunda Catherine, Catherine’s son Tumusiime Brighton, and the suspect.

On the fateful morning, both Natukunda and Tumusiime left the home—Natukunda to Kebisoni Town and Tumusiime to fetch water—leaving the elderly woman and the maid alone.

It is reported that an argument broke out between the two over a mopping rug.

At around 7:20 AM, Tumusiime returned to find his great-grandmother lying unresponsive in her bedroom with her head covered in a cloth.

The maid was nowhere to be found.

He immediately alerted neighbors including Kamuhangire Gilbert and Agaba Peter, who rushed to the scene and confirmed that Kedress had died from apparent head injuries.

The matter was reported to the area Chairman, Mr. Katamba Richard, who then notified Kebisoni Police.

Police visited and documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and recovered a hoe with suspected blood stains believed to be the murder weapon.

A postmortem examination was also conducted.

The suspect remains at large as police intensify their manhunt. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Constance is urged to report to the nearest police station.
