President Museveni Challenges Ugandans on Poverty Reduction

KISORO –President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has challenged Ugandans for not following guidelines and precautions in implementing programs, which has contributed to increased poverty in the country.

He delivered this message during his regional tour to assess the Operation Wealth Creation and Parish Development Model (PDM) in Kisoro District.

In Kisoro, Museveni visited Angello Nsekanabo, a resident of Rutare Village, Rutare Parish, who benefited from Operation Wealth Creation in 2016.

Museveni noted that many Ugandans remain poor, particularly in the Kigezi region, due to failing to follow program guidelines. He urged people to adopt programs like PDM and invest in agriculture to improve household income.Museveni also asked agricultural officers to sensitize farmers about diseases affecting maize and potato growth. Due to land fragmentation in Kisoro, he advised residents to plant high-yielding crops.

Museveni handed Nsekanabo 12 million shillings in cash and pledged to give him a double-cabin car to aid his farming endeavors.

In his speech, Nsekanabo thanked Museveni for recognizing his work as a farmer and visiting his home.

He noted that he has developed significantly since receiving one cow from Operation Wealth Creation in 2016, which has enabled him to pay school fees for his children by selling milk daily. Nsekanabo now has eight cows, attributing his success to proper animal care.

Nsekanabo urged residents to participate in agriculture to combat poverty.

On the same tour, Museveni handed one million shillings to ten women who benefited from the PDM, to support their continued progress.
