KABALE –Police in Rubanda District have arrested a 35-year-old woman, Ekyinaheirwe Salimu Joventa, who is accused of murdering her husband, Andrew Byomugabe, a 50-year-old nurse, at their home in Ndego Trading Centre, Kashasha Parish, Ikumba Sub-county.
According to police reports, the incident occurred under unclear circumstances before the suspect fled the scene. Her arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out in the early hours of Sunday, 4 May 2025, as she allegedly attempted to escape to Kanungu District.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was intercepted in Hamurwa following a tip-off from members of the public.
Maate also addressed circulating rumors on social media suggesting that parts of the deceased’s body were missing. He clarified that the body of the late Andrew Byomugabe was found intact.
A postmortem examination confirmed that no body parts were missing.He indicated that investigations are nearing completion, and the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face charges of murder.
Maate urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could hinder investigations or cause unnecessary alarm.
