Kabale, Uganda – May 9, 2025* — The Minister of State for Trade and Cooperatives, Hon. David Bahati, has issued a strong call for discipline and a zero-tolerance stance on drug use among young athletes participating in the ongoing National Primary Schools Kids Athletics and Special Needs Education (SNE) Championship, currently hosted by Kabale Municipal Council.
Speaking as the guest of honor at the official opening of the games at Kabale Municipal Stadium today, Bahati underscored the importance of clean sport and integrity in athletics.
He warned against the use of performance-enhancing drugs, emphasizing that while talent and hard work are key to success, they must be grounded in discipline and ethical conduct.
“Performance-enhancing drugs not only rob the sport of fairness but also endanger the health of our children,” Bahati said.
“It is vital that we instill a strong ethical foundation in our young athletes to protect the future of Ugandan athletics.”
The minister also called on coaches, teachers, and parents to take an active role in guiding and educating children about the dangers of doping and the values of honest competition.
This year’s championship, which runs under the theme “Relay Around the World,”will conclude on May 14, 2025.
The event brings together young athletes from across the country, including participants with special needs, to compete and showcase their talents.
