24-Year-Old University Student Joins Race for Kabale District Female Youth Councillor Seat

By Our Reporter,

Kabale-A 24-year-old student of King Ceasor International University, Justine Kobusingye, has joined the race for the Kabale District Female Youth Councillor seat. Kobusingye, a second-year Bachelor of Business Administration student, is one of the two candidates vying for the position.

Running as an independent candidate, she is set to challenge the incumbent, Natasha Namara Ellen, who is also seeking re-election on an independent ticket.Kobusingye currently serves as the Kabale Municipality National Youth Council Secretary for Female Affairs.

Speaking during a press conference in Kabale Town, she said her decision to contest is driven by her ambition to become the voice of the youth in the district council. She emphasized the need to champion increased funding for youth structures, which she believes have long been neglected.

“We have recently learnt that government releases a lot of funds for the youth, but only a small fraction of it reaches them because it ends up in the wrong hands, and there’s no one to speak out about it. I want to be that voice,” she said.

Kobusingye pledged to advocate for transparency and proper allocation of resources under government programs such as Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and the Parish Development Model (PDM), ensuring that youth groups benefit as intended.

Campaigns for district councillor positions are expected to intensify as the nomination period closes and candidates engage voters ahead of the elections.
