President Yoweri Museveni has listed peace, poverty eradication and economic growth as his main priorities in the next term of office.
In a statement posted on X on January 26, 2026, Museveni said he had officially received the declaration of his re-election and thanked Ugandans for standing for peace and stability.
“Countrymen, Countrywomen and, especially the Bazzukulu, on Sunday 18th January, I formally received the declaration of my re-election as President of Uganda,” Museveni said.
He thanked God, First Lady Janet Museveni, the National Resistance Movement members, state institutions and Ugandans who supported him.
“I thank God, Maama Janet, the NRM members, our leaders, institutions, and all Ugandans who stood for peace and stability,” he said.
Museveni said his new term, which he referred to as a new Kisanja, would focus on five key areas. He said his government would safeguard peace and security, eradicate household poverty, strengthen national unity, enforce discipline in governance and support wealth creators to grow the economy.
“In this new Kisanja, our priorities are clear: safeguard peace and security, eradicate household poverty, strengthen unity, enforce discipline in governance, and support wealth creators to grow our economy,” Museveni said.
He added that Uganda would remain peaceful and focused on development.
“Uganda will remain peaceful, stable and focused on progress,” he said.
Museveni also wished Ugandans a happy Liberation Day.
“I thank you all and wish you a happy Liberation Day,” he said.
The Electoral Commission declared Museveni winner of the January 15, 2026 election after he secured 71.6 per cent of the vote, extending his long rule over the country.
