MAAIF Boosts Agricultural Services with 109 Vehicles, 1,034 Motorcycles Across 69 Districts

Government has handed over 109 vehicles and 1,034 motorcycles to extension workers under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) to strengthen agricultural service delivery across 69 districts.

The vehicles and motorcycles were procured under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project, aimed at improving productivity and building resilience among farming communities.

The distribution exercise, which included double cabin pickups and motorcycles, was flagged off by Vice President Jessica Alupo at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The project is supported by the World Bank and targets improving climate-smart agriculture implementation at the local government level.

The vehicles and motorcycles are expected to ease mobility for extension workers, enabling them to reach more farmers and improve service delivery in hard-to-reach areas.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening extension services.

“It is our policy objective as the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries that all extension workers get adequate means of transport to enable them carry out farm outreaches,” he said.

Tumwebaze also called on leaders at all levels to ensure proper use of the equipment.

“I appeal to all leaders—Members of Parliament, LC5 chairpersons, RDCs, DISOs, councillors and others—to ensure that these tools deployed are put to good use. I thank the World Bank Group for prioritising agriculture in their funding and lending framework,” he said.

The government says the new transport equipment will play a key role in accelerating agricultural transformation, improving productivity, and supporting farmers to adapt to climate change challenges across the country.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by the State Minister for Fisheries Hellen Adoa witnessed talongside other government officials.
